Large U.S. Tariffs Begin With China Tile Imports
WASHINGTON – The price tags on newly imported ceramic tile from China doubled in September – and that’s literally not half of the problems the materials face in the next six months.
Preliminary tariffs of 103%-222% on Chinese ceramic tile went into effect Sept. 13, based on a federal Commerce Department ruling on countervailing (subsidized) import duties.
The USITA is still investigating anti-dumping charges by U.S. ceramic-tile producers on Chinese producers and exporters selling tile at less-than-fair-market value in the United States.
The USITA will make its final determination on both the antidumping and countervailing tariffs in January.
