SFA: What's the Answer?
FillaChip™ talk

I've had this happen to me on a few random occasions using the CLEAR fill. Once I hit it with the UV light, it will start to turn a bluish grey, sometimes a cloudy black. I attributed it to being an older tube of the fill, but I had it happen on a brand-new tube today. I always use the plastic shield, so I can't say it was that. Like I mentioned, doesn't always happen but has happened enough. Hopefully one of you fine rock jockeys has a little more knowledge than I! Thanks.

I'm starting to think heat affects the glue in the syringe. I've had 2 tubes go brown on me (one white and one clear) recently. We keep the kit in the work truck and temps are really starting to climb down here. Could possibly be your issue as well? Nothing against FillaChip, but if you mix up some properly tinted methacrylate, you'll get the color you want and it polishes up perfectly. It takes a few minutes longer. Go clean the truck or something.

Methacrylate has advantages, but I can’t say it is better. Activator and the inability to form it to an edge makes it my second choice. OP, we have issues with the whites turning yellow once they reach a certain age. T.J. Henderson Modern Countertops (217)741-0689

Dab some wax on the back of a section of masking tape at the repair; stick the tape to the bottom of the edge. Fill the edge chip and stick the tape over. Scrape and polish in 10 minutes.

Keep the wax in the bag, put the tape over FillaChip, scrape and polish in 9 minutes.

When you say '”put the tape over FillaChip,” are you suggesting using masking tape instead of the clear plastic sheets that come with the repair kits? I've thought about trying that before but thought that maybe the adhesive on the tape would react with the fill and cause a weird reaction. I assume the UV can still penetrate through tape.

This is what I am talking about but one difference. We fold the tape over on itself so that the adhesive does not come into contact with the FillaChip.
