SFA: What's the Answer?
Spindle Water

I have seen posts on this before but couldn’t seem to dig up. I have a filter press that works pretty well - and have run the filtered water through my spindles (two 2004 intermac 1500s). The spindles were relatively cheap and easy to swap out so it made sense. I have a new 38.5 being installed and don’t want to risk running that water through it. I can obviously hook up to the municipal water, but then I will be constantly overcharging my closed loop. I have heard of an inline filter installed at the machine which gets the water really clean - just asking if anyone has any experience with them. Do they work? Require a lot of maintenance? Where do you get them? I had a GranQuartz guy suggest a sand pool filter - but the tech setting up the machine didn’t seem too keen on that idea. Just looking for some insight as to what you guys are doing ... thanks! Chris Connelly The Granite Shop Niagara Falls, N.Y. 7164021046 Chris@graniteshop1.com

I got mine with the water system. It is a micron filter. Change the filter out in minutes when needed. I got it from SIG Group. I run that for the saw and router spindles Justin Zacherl Creekside Granite and More 814-657-3294 Justin.zacherl@stonefabricatorsalliance.com

I have been told to run city water no matter what, but it seems as I am hearing more and more about the micron filters that JZ is talking about. I think I may need to research this more. Chris - I have a closed-loop system as well and I have to dump water periodically when the system gets too full. Tim Zeng Zeng Granite

I run cloudy-yet filtered down to 5 micron, clarified water through our spindles for the past 4-5 years with no issues. The only thing that gets fresh city water is the waterjet. Joe Durfee American Floor Covering East Hartford, Conn.

Same as Joe on 2 45.3 with no issues. The machine inlet has a 5-micron filter with replaceable cartridge on the master machines. We’ve been running like that for 3 ½ years now. Tim Farr Stoneworks of Augusta Inc. Augusta, Ga.

I am a newb as far as CNC goes. Ours will be installed soon, but they are selling me a Watts BBH-150 cartridge filter that is supposed to filter to 5 microns in front of the CNC spindle supply. Water system is one of the Full Circle Water clarifiers now sold by GranQuartz that seems to do a great job - same as the Park systems but this one is sold through GranQuartz. So cloudy water filtered to 5 micron is what they have set me up with for our Northwood. Jason Yeager High Mesa Craftsmen Montrose, Colo.
