New India, Turkey Quartz Tariffs Take Shape
WASHINGTON – Unfair-trade tariffs on quartz surfaces from India and Turkey will be much lower than similar duties on Chinese products.
The U.S. Commerce Department announced Dec. 5 that preliminary anti-dumping tariffs on the two countries will be in the single digits -- 5.05% or less for India, and 4.88% for Turkey,
Combined with previously announced subsidy-based duties, the total tariffs for almost all Indian slabs will be 83.79%, and 8.67% for Turkish quartz surfaces.
Final recommendations from Commerce will be early next year, and the U.S. International Trade Commission will make the final decisions on tariff in the spring.
New Quartz Plants Set for California, Georgia
Two companies announced new U.S. slab factories in November.
American Quartz Group held a ceremonial groundbreaking on Nov. 15 for its facility in Barstow, Calif., 90 miles northeast of Los Angeles. The new company didn’t set a date for initial operations.
Brazil-based Guidoni Group, meanwhile, announced it will invest $96 million to install a slab-manufacturing plant across the country in McRae-Helena, Ga.
The facility – the third for Guidoni worldwide – will take over a recently vacated lawnmower factory and provide more than 450 jobs in the small south-central Georgia community 150 miles southeast of Atlanta.
