Thunderstruck
Megan Tennant (owner and lead designer) Forte Design Studios, Fort Collins, Colo.
The designer/bulider main concern was the battle between sustainability and the higher-end impact desired on this project. Something that is aesthetically breathtaking is not always made in a sustainable way or with sustainable materials.
Sustainabile materials included a locally sourced walnut slab for the island as well as walnut cabinets, mixing with a high end, contemporary look of textured European oak cabinets that were painted low-VOC black. The Patagonia quartzite slab was one of the highlights of the project, with LED backlighting creating true kitchen energy and warmth.
Countertops: Patagonia quartzite, Pental Oasis and Coastal Grey quartz, Baldwin Woodworking walnut live-edge slab ($19,000)
Tile: Porcelanosa Mosaico Nantes ($5,300)
Total materials: $228,100
