Using Digital Technology to Drive Sales and Efficiency
By Larry M. Hood and Peter Marcucci
In the August issue of the Slippery Rock Gazette, we presented Part I of an interview with Colonial Marble and Granite Owner-President Nikos Papadopoulos, and Senior Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Design,Sandra Phillips. Representing Quote Countertops is COO/ Managing Partner Frank Sciarrino and Chief Sales Officer Steven Fiumara. SRG: The Quote Countertops website lists four different levels or packages. The Kitchen Visualizer, Combo, Basic, and Enterprise. Could you please explain the features and benefits of the package you are using? Nikos Papadopoulos: We pretty much use everything in Enterprise, and that package is available to anyone. It allows us to utilize all the features to the fullest, and we use it to engage with our customers. There are options for fabricators who don’t know exactly what they want – and there are different price points for the different tiers of features. Maybe they just want to utilize one feature – like the kitchen visualizer, or maybe they just want the estimation tool. For us, we really bought in to everything this technology can do, and we implemented it into our day-to-day business. Steven can better explain the different types of packages available – for fabricators, or kitchen designers – businesses that want to utilize specific tools. Steven Fiumara: Nikos is on our e-commerce Enterprise subscription. The big differences between Enterprise and the rest of the subscriptions include the ability for both online and

showroom quoting, dealer accounts, our slab layout tool and the option to purchase a kiosk (See the archives, August Slippery Rock ( https://www.slipperyrockgazette.net/index.cfm/pageId/4679 ). Online quoting gives consumers the ability to create a simple quote from a fabricator’s website, social media, etc. Showroom quoting lets the sales team create or edit more robust quotes for the customer, includes an advanced quoting option to speed through creating a quote, and has the ability for the team to sign contracts and process transactions. Dealer accounts allow a fabricator’s partners to create their own quotes instantly using wholesale pricing versus retail pricing.
Slab layout was something many of our fabricator customers were asking for and we just launched it. It operates similarly to other options on the market but built into the software. And the kiosk provides an interactive experience and interface to a shop’s full sales solution, including every single pricing product, every single price point. A lot of our customers will give away dealer accounts, and some may purchase a kiosk for their dealer network. The Enterprise subscription creates retail and wholesale sales opportunities, from lead generation all the way through contract signing and payment, all within our system. SRG: Does Quote Countertops integrate with other production software? Steven Fiumara: Yes. We have an API (Application Programming Interface) that allows Quote Countertops to interface with multiple applications. It integrates throughout the whole, typical work flow. Every data point in our system is able to push and pull, so we can pull data in from other applications, or push our data out. So as long as the other system is what we call “open API,” they can connect into our API. Some of the data that can be pushed out from our software includes customer information, quote information, job information, statuses, specs, etcetera. They can also push data back to our tool, as well.

Cliff Dieker: Stone Carver Extraordinaire
By Ken Scott
Cliff Dieker had no way of knowing that a field trip to a museum during his senior year in high school would ultimately lead to a hands-on, lifelong connection to stone. Dieker recalled gazing at the Egyptian Pyramid Block exhibit and being impressed with the way they were able to shape the stone in intricate ways with such primitive tools. From that first observance of the techniques of stone shaping, to developing it as a hobby, then to becoming one of only a handful of craftsmen to restore the Kansas Statehouse to its original grandeur, Dieker’s path was a long and winding one. But first Dieker felt like he needed a real job. After high school he attended college, graduating with an accounting degree. He went on to have a successful career as both a graphic artist and co-owner of a print shop, but he never forgot the pull he felt to try stone carving for himself. In his spare time, he practiced his carving skills on his first home, a one-room stone schoolhouse built in 1880 that he and his wife purchased. So when he retired from accounting and graphic arts, he began his second, much different career, as a stone carver. “I was drawn to that stone structure [my first home]. We remodeled much of the inside, including the fireplace, and made doorways into windows,” Dieker said. “I was able to develop my skills doing these projects, including adding a stone porch, retaining walls, a stone treasure chest for my son, and even a life-size lion, which weighed several tons. "After about a year, when I finished carving the lion, I realized I had spent about 75% of my project time on just looking at the piece of stone, deciding on the direction. With stone, it’s easy to take some off, but you really can’t put it back on.”

Cliff Dieker was one of a handful of carvers who worked on the Kansas Statehouse restoration. Completed in 2014, the project spanned several years. Dieker estimates he completed between 600 and 700 Dutchman repairs on the Statehouse restoration, “from fist-size to about 800 pounds.” (Photos Courtesy Warner Blackburn, Cliff Dieker, and Debbie Crede)

It’s the things you do to your online presence for your website to show higher (aka rank higher) in a search engine like Google. The best way to think about SEO is to imagine a big puzzle. There are a ton of pieces to that puzzle and like for SEO, there are a ton of tasks and things you can do to help your search engine rankings. And what’s the overall finished puzzle? It’s that top few spots in Google that will bring you traffic to your countertop shops website. And the more traffic you get to your website, the more leads, and projects you will get.
