SFA: What's the Answer?
Long Seating Overhang

When doing a long (40") seating overhang, with a waterfall on the end, what do you recommend for supports, when the client does not want to see the supports at all? In this particular case, the material is Matarazzo.

These dudes will either already have what you need or be able to make whatever you want. I HIGHLY recommend them for all of your supports: https://originalgranitebracket.com/ Chris Harvey www.JacksonvilleCountertops.com

Is Matarazzo a composite? It also depends on the thickness, 2cm or 3 cm. 40” overhang or 40” top? (o/h +24” cab + 14”h overhang +/-) Natural Stone Institute Design Manual, Ch. 17, speaks to the need for support in overhangs that exceeds 10” for 3cm and 6” for 2 cm. **I never felt comfortable with that and cut it down to 8” and 4" (without edge lamination) in 2cm. The countertop material is a veneer and is not considered structural, so don't count on the waterfall for much, if any, support. My guess is that you will need a counterbalance type of support (if 40” top) to support out to within 6” or 8” from the edge of the overhang, with spacing between 24”-36”, depending on material thickness. I'd keep supports on the end of the cabinet by any waterfall, and within 8” of an open end. Also: Most quartz products allow spans between supports up to 36” for an unsupported overhang in a 2:1 ratio of support to overhang, up to 13“. I always kept it to 12”, just cuz I don't do anything in 13's ….
